We Welcome Any Donations

Dear Friends of Greater Waupaca Area Parks & Trails,

We are starting another year of promoting biking and hiking on trails of all sorts in the Waupaca area. Our concentration at this time has been on signing reasonably safe trails on town roads so that people not familiar with what might be an enjoyable ride or walk have something to guide them. Setting up a trail like this is cost effective as it
basically involves working with the townships and sometimes the County to place signage. However, we are also trying to place a bike repair station in a strategic location on each route. You will see these at South Park, at Scandinavia on the Tomorrow River Trail, and on the north side of the Waupaca City Square. These run about $5000.

In 2023 we completed Masākāēw Trail which goes north out of Waupaca to Ogdensburg, Scandinavia and back to Waupaca. The name of the trail is Menominee for crossing over water which it does ten times. Thank you to all who donated to make this trail happen.

In 2024 our goal is to complete the Waupa-Wega Trail which will go from Waupaca to Weyauwega and back, a 21-mile ride.

The map below shows where GWAPT is working with the County Highway Department to create an off road biking/hiking trail alongside County Trunk A. It will join the end of the present trail that goes across Highway 10 to a crosswalk that will take bikers/hikers across County Trunk A to East Gate Dr. This is the only section of the Waupa-Wega
Trail that follows a County Rd except for a piece between Galilee Rd and the City of Weyauwega that follows County Trunk X. The 418’ stretch shown below has a lot of truck traffic coming on to Highway 10. The engineering will be finished and paid soon. We hope the County will begin construction as soon as we have raised the necessary funds. We have already received $7500 toward this project from the Waupaca Community Fund bringing our total raised to $10,429 including private donations.  Our goal for this entire construction project is $30,000.  We are working with the City of Waupaca to do some grant writing for this also.

We are asking you to consider making a contribution toward this construction which is entirely tax deductible. Any amount is appreciated. At our website you will find a donate button on the menu bar. If you prefer to send a check, please make it out to WCNRF with GWAPT in the memo. Waupaca County Natural Resources Fund is our fiscal sponsor. Mail the check to GWAPT, C/o RAJ, PO Box 126, Waupaca, WI 54981. Thank you again for you consideration!

Sincerely,
